Louis Dickhaut

works as a cinematographer with a focus on fictional and doc films.  He is particularly fascinated by films that like to include space, either nature or architecture, as an additional visual storytelling element. Together with the director he loves to find the right visual approach for each project. Key to this is spending time together: Walking through many locations, talking about colour or finding the best quality of light just in the backyard around the corner. Building up a consistent visual world which can support the emotional structure is always a starting point.

Many stories led him to several places such as Canada, Spain, Turkey, Greece, Portugal or Italy. Those options are always great to get to know new crew members, to find new inspiration and to get challenged by foreign limitations.

His second feature film, ICH VERSTEHE IHREN UNMUT (I Understand Your Displeasure, directed by Kilian Armando Friedrich), celebrated its world premiere in the Panorama section at the Berlinale in 2026. The film will be released in German cinemas in May 2026. SCHAM (directed by Lukas Röder), which won the Bavarian Film Award 2026 in the Discovery section, will be released in German cinemas in early 2026. Louis has also made several films with Anna-Maria Dutoit over the years since back in filmschool. Her current documentary ELYSIAN FIELDS premiered at Visions du Réel in 2025.

Some of his commercial projects have been honoured with the Spotlight Gold Award, the Clio Silver Award and the Young ones ADC Silver Award.
